Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum
Arlington, Massachusetts

Art, Culture, History, Historic House

Cyrus Dallin set the highest standard of the most robust American Classicism to date. His historic contribution was to connect the high art of Europe with the themes of America. Patriots, Indians, American War Heroes—each was given the attention and respect of a sensitive, observant man.
After his death, his work was ignored for decades. Many works were lost, abandoned, or thrown away. But enough people enjoyed his work to preserve some portion—a photograph, a sketch, a letter, a model, and, sometimes, an actual sculpture.
History has made the first cut. Now, this is our opportunity to let future generations know what we value. We think Cyrus Dallin was a genius, and we want him to make the big leagues of Art History.

Boston Children's Museum
Boston, Massachusetts

Art, Children's, Culture

Boston Children's Museum (BCM) was founded in 1913 by a dedicated group of teachers who wanted to expose city children to objects from the natural world and also create an innovative center for the exchange of materials and ideas that would advance the teaching of science. BCM has evolved into an internationally recognized children's museum that develops and delivers informal education for children in the areas of science, culture, health, and the arts. From 1962 to 1986, under the leadership of children?s museum revolutionary Michael Spock, the Museum pioneered the development of child-centered, interactive exhibitions, a model now used throughout the world to engage learners of all ages and all levels of knowledge and ability.

Several prominent Waltham businessmen gathered together in 1913 and founded an historical society to preserve and promote the history of their City. The dozen or so Charter Members have grown to over 300 in the intervening years. The predominantly Yankee Society has expanded to include every ethnic group which settled in the City, and welcomes recent immigrants to learn about their new home. Currently the Waltham Historical Society presents a lecture every other month on either an aspect of Waltham history, or how Waltham fits into the Nation’s history. Through the generosity of Mr. Fred Kimberk, office space at 760 Main Street has allowed us to open an exhibit area to display photos and artifacts from our collection.
