Tucked away in 22 acres of open and wooded land, the Farmers Branch Historical Park is home to 10 historic structures that interpret life in North Texas from 1840-1940. The 1856 stone home of Dr. Samuel Gilbert is the oldest rock structure in Dallas County that is still on its original foundation. The 1870s Log House and single crib barn from Pilot Point, Texas were brought to the Park and restored to represent the initial pioneers to this region in the 1840s. Fort Concho National Historic Landmark
San Angelo, Texas

Children's, General, History, Historic House, Library

Covering forty acres and twenty-four buildings just south of downtown San Angelo, Fort Concho represents one of the best preserved frontier forts west of the Mississippi! Its 1870s-style structures reflect the simple but sturdy military architecture of the late 1800s when West Texas was truly a "vast expanse" awaiting protection and settlement.

Fort Concho is central to San Angelo in spirit, fact, and location. Its soldiers in the 1867-1889 era created the economic needs (both legal and illegal!) that led to the creation of San Angelo, the "town they left behind them" in 1889. The fort sits just south of the Concho River and downtown San Angelo, at the virtual center point of the city that now has 90,000 people within sixty square miles.

This display will be added to or refocused on some particular aspect of kitchen life from by-gone days that suits the theme. Our displays are historic, dating back to the 1800's. Some of our major projects ahead are: Displays of family entertainment, family fashions, photography showing along with exhibits, and a real sewing area. We are always in need of docents to help in different aspects.
