Arkansas Tech Museum
Russellville, Arkansas

Culture, History, Library, Science, University

This museum was created in 1989 as a history and archeology museum, with an interpretive region encompassing the Arkansas River Valley of western Arkansas, with particular emphasis on the history of the University and the immediate counties of Pope, Yell, and Johnson. In 2008, as the University's Centennial approached, the Museum mission and interpretive program was narrowed to interpreting the establishment and history of Arkansas Tech University and the stories of the people and partners that comprise that history. The Museum also began formal development of Tech History Archival and Tech History Memorabilia collections. Museum staff have since 2008 worked closely with University Administration to develop exhibits about this history as part of the University Centennial Project.

Our museum is a dream come to. When we first organized we had no money and no definite place for a museum. A local Bank gave us an older home which was built by the only man from Greene Co. Ar. to ever serve as Governor of Ar. (1933-1937) His name was J. Marion Futrell. The home is 100 years old in 2008 and it took us 4 years to restore the home. We opened to the public on Jan. 12, 2008.
