We offer a Voices from the Past program that is free to the public on the second Sunday of each month, September-April. Local individuals present information on historic topics of area interest. We also have a historic German language church service on July 4th. Usually a bus tour is available in the fall.

Hudson-Meng Bison Kill Site & Museum

Ten thousand years ago, long before Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull, Red Cloud and Little Big Man, people of the Alberta Culture hunted the lands of northwest Nebraska. Armed with stone tools, a band of Alberta Culture paleo indains stalked, then slaughtered 600 bison and insured their winter's survival. Today the area is known as the Hudson-Meng Bison Kill Site and Museum. Visitors here feel the spirit of these early hunters.

Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center

The Center is a landmark on the Chadron State College that features displays that celebrate the life and literature of Mari Sandoz as well as the culture of the High Plains. The Chicoine Atrium is also part of the Center and is a beautiful events space.

Omaha Children's Museum

The Omaha Children's Museum is a special place where children can challenge themselves, discover how the world works, and learn through play. It is Omaha's only participatory museum, a place where children and adults can learn and play together. The Museum provides an ever-changing series of interactive exhibits, workshops, and special events. It serves the entire community as well as school groups and a large minority audience.' _Museum.History='The Museum was founded in 1976 as a traveling workshop, and has been located in the heart of downtown Omaha since 1979. Currently, an average of 8,000 children and adults visit the Museum each month. At this time more than 2,500 families are members.

The Frank House
Kearney, Nebraska

The Frank House was designed by George William Frank, Jr. for his parents who lived in the house until 1900. It was the first house west of the Missouri River to be wired for electricity during its construction (1886-1889.) In 1907 the Frank House became a part of the Nebraska State Tuberculosis Hospital and was used as living quarters for the hospital’s staff until 1972. The Frank House is now an integral part of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The Trails & Rails Museum has six historic buildings to tour through, as well as livery barn and an authentic Union Pacific steam engine and caboose. The archive building is used by researchers all over the world. We have acquired the land to the west of us and can almost double in size. Join us for several special events through-out the year! We are located on the original Mormon Trail Route (current 11th St.)

Fairbury City Museum

The Fairbury City Museum has been located for many years on the west side of the square in downtown Fairbury. The museum opened in its new location, the former West Ward School, in the fall of 1998. This move has enabled us to present our collection in a much more pleasant atmosphere and encourages visitors to more fully explore all the treasures which had previously been hidden.

Homestead National Monument

The Homestead Act of 1862 was one of the most significant and enduring events in the westward expansion of the United States. By granting 160 acres of free land to claimants, it allowed nearly any man or woman a "fair chance." Homestead National Monument of America, located in Southeast Nebraska, commemorates this Act and the far-reaching effects it had upon the landscape and people.

MRB-Lewis & Clark Center

Education through time-honored methods of observation and discovery is the central mission of this interactive center and adjoining hiking trails. The flora and fauna (178 new plants and 122 new animals) and scientific discoveries recorded by the Lewis & Clark Expedition (1804-1806) are the focus of the Center. This theme is exciting and unique because no other museum or interpretive center in the nation, existing or planned, focuses on the captains’ amazing scientific discoveries.

Plattsmouth Conservancy

The Plattsmouth Conservancy is dedicated to the preservation of Plattsmouth's architectural heritage. The Plattsmouth Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging city residents and businesses to wisely use and retain their historical homes and buildings. The Conservancy seeks to promote the identification, evaluation, preservation, and restoration of these buildings. The organization strives to stimulate and support public awareness of such places by exchanging information and ideas, conducting tours and seminars, and gathering materials and books for public use.

The Weeping Water Museum Complex

About thirty miles south of Omaha down Highway 50 and thirty miles east of Lincoln on Highway 34 exists something you might not expect in the small town of Weeping Water. It is the Weeping Water Valley Historical Society Museum Complex. For the size of the town, the museum really is a site to see. You can see displays on Native American Culture, frontier life, go visit a Doctor's Office form the late 1800's or see recreations of the Weeping Water's early buisnesses. If you want to do research the complex along with the local library offers plenty of that. There are plenty of old photo's, documents, and artifacts. The museum consists of four different buildings. Three of the buildings are a block off main street near the town's historic library.
