Description

The Golden Drift Museum highlights the history of Dutch Flat. Exhibits cover mining, building of railroads, history of the Chinese in the area.

The Society provides docents and operates the Golden Drift Museum, part of Placer County Museums Division. We host events at the Museum, including guided tours of the historic town of Dutch Flat and of the historic Dutch Flat cemetery.

Alta, Dutch Flat, Gold Run, and the surrounding area in Placer County, California have a rich history founded upon gold mining, the railroad and hydroelectric power. The transcontinental railroad and the transcontinental highway, The Lincoln Highway, both traverse the area.

Walking Tour of Dutch Flat

Dutch Flat is a small mountain community in the eastern part of Placer County. Once home to over 1,000 people, today the Dutch Flat Historic District sits on the National Register of Historic Places and visitors can view many of the remaining structures that existed in this formerly bustling community. The Golden Drift Historical Society has collaborated with the Placer County Museums Division to highlight some of the historic buildings in Dutch Flat. If you are looking for the more extensive walking tour these highlights are based on, go to our website and click on the link to access a PDF of the Golden Drift Historical Society's official Walking Tour brochure.
