Kate Michener, McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center
The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is an air and space science center honoring space pioneers Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard. Using state-of-the-art technology, the Discovery Center offers advanced exhibits, simulation experiences, observatory, NASA Educator Resource Center, conference areas, world-renowned planetarium, science store, and cafe.
To educate, incite and entertain learners of all ages in the sciences and humanities by actively engaging them in the exploration of astronomy, aviation, Earth and space science.
Formerly known as the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is a tribute to two NH heroes and space pioneers. The original planetarium was built in 1990 and the Discovery Center expansion was completed in 2009.
NASA artifacts, Star Trek props, personal items of Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard.

The Countdown Café
Stop by for a Mercury Caesar Salad, or try a Big Dipper Panini - while gazing out upon a Mercury-Redstone Rocket, poised for launch! On the go? Grab a freshly baked scone or parfait. Menu selections include seasonal local vegetables, unusual soups, salads, sandwiches and hot entrees. The Countdown Café is the perfect place to meet friends for lunch. If you are just visiting the café, there is no need to pay Discovery Center admission!
Private Events
Space - the Final Frontier - at your command, day or night, seven days a week! Choose a boardroom for an hour - or rent the entire Discovery Center all night long. You and your guests can have exclusive use of the Discovery Center with access to exhibit halls, conference room, function room, Unitil Program Center, observatory, and state-of-the-art planetarium theater.
The Science Store
More than just souvenirs, explore a universe of unique items from astronaut ice cream to NH made crafts, books, posters and space t-shirts. The Science Store offers a variety of products geared for learners of all ages. Back by popular demand! Suited up and ready to head into space is this plush Astronaut Bear. In full gear with a workable zipper, this adorable little bear is just waiting to be adopted by your budding little astronaut.
