The displays are subject to change every six months. We have a popular kitchen display, that will not change as often. This display will be added to or refocused on some particular aspect of kitchen life from by-gone days that suits the theme. Our displays are historic, dating back to the 1800's. Some of our major projects ahead are: Displays of family entertainment, family fashions, photography showing along with exhibits, and a real sewing area. We are always in need of docents to help in different aspects.
The Museum was started in early 1990; situated on the site and in the old fire station of Mt. Vernon that has been refurbished. Our library is located downstairs.
Furniture, home accessories, clothing, farm equipment, wood work, handmade violins, musical instruments dating back to the 1800's. Bird egg and butterfly collection from the late 1800's and early 1900's.
The museum offers a docent program, gallery tours, educators guide and lectures.
Newsletter every two months and a board report each month. Maps of historic homes, and historic sites.
