The Vigo County Historical Museum is located on the National Road in downtown Terre Haute...the Crossroads of America. The 34,000 square foot facility offers you a 21st century experience while you learn the stories of Vigo County from the last 200 years.
The Museum is operated by the Vigo County Historical Society, which was formed in 1922. A group of dedicated staff and volunteers want to make your visit a fun and informative experience. With exhibits that change throughout the year, our goal is to entice you to come back again and again.
The Society also operates and maintains the Paul Dresser Birthplace located in Fairbanks Park.
Tim Crumrin is an award-winning historian and author. Born in Terre Haute, he grew up fascinated by the stories of the city’s colorful past. He received the prestigious Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement in Indiana History Award from the Indiana Historical Society in 2014 for his contributions to history.
He is the author or editor of seven books, two of which, Til the Coal Train Hauled It Away, A Memoir of the Rise and Decline of a Small Town (2017) and Wicked Terre Haute (2019), dealt with Vigo County History. His latest book, Hidden History of Terre Haute, will be published by the History Press on July 20, 2020.
Crumrin has served on the Board of Directors of the Vigo County Historical Society since 2014. He lives in Terre Haute with his wife Robin, daughter Brynn and four dogs who graciously allow him to share their office.
