The Medway Historical Society Museum has a large collection of tools, artifacts, paintings, dolls, journals and photographs from Medway history. The Society also maintains a large library with many reference works about Medway, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, New England and New York including the Vital Records to 1850 of most Massachusetts towns. The museum is a treasure trove for the historian and genealogist for local history.
Founded in 1902, Medway Historical Society fills an important role in preserving the history of Medway. A private, non-profit organization, Medway Historical Society relies on grants, membership feeds, fundraising events, and private donations to maintain its collection of artifacts pertinent to the history of Medway. Please consider joining Medway Historical Society. Your modest membership fee helps to preserve our collection, maintain our building, and entitles you to attend monthly meetings, lectures and other events, and make many new friends with common interests.
Located along the Charles River in the southeast corner of town, the Medway Village Historic District was designated as a National Historic District in December, 2008. Medway Village consists of over two hundred historic buildings on approximately 60 acres of land. Medway Village was the first area in town to see significant growth as the textile mills on the falls of the Charles River were established at the end of the eighteenth century and the industrial development during the nineteenth century. By the 1830s, the area was known as Factory Village. As you walk through Medway Village, refer to the historic walking tour pamphlet prepared by Timothy Dobday. Walking tour pamphlets can be found at the Town Hall or by contacting the Medway Historical Society. The unique architecture and historical facts will surely enlighten you as you tour Medway Village.
Do you have historical documents, photos or artifacts of Medway that you would be willing to share (electronically) with the Medway Historical Society? If so, please send digital photos or digital scans to the email address above.
The society was incorporated on 1903.
