OPEN MAY 1-MID-OCT

Culture, History, Historic House

The Northern Mariposa County History Center, often referred to as the Coulterville Museum, offers visitors a glimpse of the life and times of early California, from the early 1800’s through the boom days of the 1849 gold rush and the post gold rush era of the late 1800’s and early 20th century. Local residents, many third and fourth generation descendants of the original miners, ranchers and shopkeepers that settled the area, established the NMCHC in 1976 as a 501c3 charitable organization, securing the land, buildings, exhibits and financial support to open the Museum to the public in 1983.

History, Military

The SS Jeremiah O'Brien is one of two remaining fully functional Liberty ships of the 2,710 built and launched during World War II. The O'Brien has the distinction of being the last unaltered Liberty ship and remains historically accurate. Moored at Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf, she is a premier San Francisco attraction.

General, History, Military, Specialized

The museum houses two storylines under one roof--the history of military presence since 1844 on what is present day Fort Irwin and the history of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment from 1901-Present.

Novato History Museum

Novato, California

History, Historical Society

The Novato History Museum, founded by Mrs. Margaret "Peg" Coady in 1976, is located in the home of Novato's first Postmaster, Henry F. Jones. The building, possibly the oldest dwelling in Novato, may have been one of several houses constructed by Ramon Pacheco circa 1850. It stood in the original "Old Town" on South Novato Blvd. near Yukon Way. Donated to the City of Novato in 1972, the building was moved to its present location and restored by volunteer members of the Novato Civic Foundation.
