The Imperial Valley Desert Museum is a new facility in the heart of the Yuha Desert housing Native American and historic artifacts collected from within the Imperial Valley. Opening a new museum in the twenty-first century, we do not want to be seen as an exhibit within four walls, but we want to engage and interact outside of the limitations of the "box", our new building, both metaphorically and physically.

History

The museum was established to preserve the history of Indian Valley. This history includes that of the Native Americans, early settlers, miners, ranchers and loggers and the towns of Greenville, Crescent Mills, Taylorsville, Genesee and Englemine.

The Museum is housed in the oldest building on the ranch, built circa 1877. The building was used as the cooking wing and bunkhouse of the 1868 Ranch Manager's house built by James Irvine I.
