The 3d Cavalry Regiment, the Army's newest Regiment of Strykers, is one of the Army's elite brigade-level combined arms units, consisting of nearly 5000 Cavalry Troopers; it is easily one of the most powerful brigade-level combat formations in the world.

The building in Emory has a number of exhibits and artifacts that detail the stories of the Reconstruction era in Texas, as well as Negro League baseball and Buffalo soldiers. The museum also includes a number of vintage U.S. postage stamps as well as a display of the Rosenwald Schools in the South. In fact, the museum is now in the midst of a fund-raising campaign to ultimately preserve and restore a vacated Rosenwald School building in the community.

The Alamo began its existence in 1718 as Mission San Antonio de Valero, the oldest of San Antonio's five Spanish mission. In 1724, Spanish officials relocated Valero to the spot that the Alamo now occupies. Two original building remain from the mission period (1724-1793)-the church, or modem Shrine, and the convento, or Long Barrack. The mission was desecularized in 1793.
