The Fairgrounds Museum maximizes hands on and live experiences. Most display materials stay in the ownership of the museum, individual or organization which provides them. Live music, video and spoken presentations encourage audience participation. A 1,000 sq foot model railway entertains as well as celebrates the logging and commercial heritage of the region. Large format photography encourages group discussions about the way it was.

The Hallie Ford Museum of Art is housed in a 27,000 square foot facility. It includes four permanent galleries and two temporary exhibition spaces. Permanent galleries focus on European, Asian, and American art; Native American art; historic and contemporary regional art; and European, Asian, and American works on paper. Temporary exhibitions feature historic and contemporary art.

The museum is housed in the former Oregon Power Company Transformer Station, Originally constructed in 1911. It is situated in the heart of historic downtown Springfield and is surrounded by large, colorful murals painted by renouwned artists. Because of its important role in Oregon's early utility industry, the building is listed on the national register of historic places.
