The Texas Fire Museum houses an extensive collection of antique fire apparatus, vintage sirens and beacons, historic turnout gear, helmets, axes, hoses, nozzles, and many other items that represent the history of the fire service. With approximately 50 pieces of antique apparatus on display, we have trucks rolling in and out of the Museum on a daily basis. The Texa Music Museum is a non-profit corporation that was founded in 1984 as a Texas Sesquicentennial project to develop support for the establishment of a Texa Museum Museum and performance center in Austin. TMM promotes and preserves Texas music by presenting two or three major exhibits a year in Austin, often with musical performances. The museum conducts research, collects photographs, artifacts, and documents relating to all aspects of Texas music and provides exhibits to other musems, schools, libraries, history centers, and other public facilities throughout the state. The Texas Music Museum is endorsed by all three major state music organizations: the Texas Music Association, the Texas Music Educators Associatin, and the Texas Music Teachers Association.

Texas Prison Museum, Inc.

The Texas Prison Museum is home to the history of the Texas prison system. Old Sparky, the Texas electric chair, is the most famous exhibit. However, visitors soon find that inmate made arts and crafts draw their attention. Visitors find that one of the more fascinating displays is that of inmate (illegally) made knives and other weapons. Displays covering the history of the famous Texas Prison Rodeo, the weapons guards have used, some now illegal, the history of the death penalty, and a look at some of Texas' infamous inmates are some of the more popular exhibits. Most patrons also step inside our life size replica cell. A patron can even have their picture made in the cell while dressed in an authentic inmate striped shirt.

The State Preservation Board was established in 1983 by the 68th Legislature for the purpose of preserving, maintaining and restoring the State Capitol and the General Land Office Building, and their contents and grounds for the benefit of the citizens of Texas. The board consists of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, one Senator appointed by the Lieutenant Governor, one Representative appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and one citizen member appointed by the Governor.

Texas Energy Museum

Although the Museum's primary focus is the history, technology and science of petroleum, much of our programming includes science in general. Modern exhibitions cover the geology and formation of oil, history of oil drilling technology, seismology, history of the U.S. and its reliance on oil; offshore drilling; refining; and the history of Spindletop and the growth of the Texas oil industry. Robotic characters and video animations relate much of the story. Children and family educational programs include Saturday outdoor events focusing on physics and "bubbles," dinosaurs and paleontology; astronomy and space exploration, and environmental science.

Texas Firearms Museum and Education Foundation

The main purpose of the museum is to provide education for the citizens of Texas in the history of firearms, the positive impact firearms have had in the development of Texas and this country, the safe handling of firearms, and the beneficial aspects of firearms ownership and their use for sporting and other purposes.

The centerpiece of our educational efforts will be the museum collection itself and related lectures, demonstrations, seminars, hands-on learning exhibits, oral history events, and publications.

In keeping with our storyline, we are attempting to tell the history of the Military Forces of Texas. At this time, we begin in 1835 and go to the present time, but somday, we must tell the story of the local militias when Spain and Mexico ruled Texas. My vision is for our museum to become the focal point in our state for the portrayal, the research and the study and the propagation throughout Texas and the United States of the history and traditions of the Texas Military Forces. Among our major projects is the completion of our research library and the renovation of a large room to be used for meetings, conferences, historical presentations by noted military historians, and for training in history and traditions for members of the State Military Forces.

Before you even enter the museum, you experience a street scene with mural paintings on the hallway walls of old Amarillo buildings. Red awnings over display windows and the front door beckon you into the pharmacy, a ‘Main Street' establishment vital to community life. The display windows serve as cases for changing exhibits; usually these are selections from recent acquisitions, but there are also special exhibits recognizing donors, National Pharmacy Week, and historical topics showcasing artifacts from the Permanent Collection.

The Billie Trimble Chandler Arts Foundation, Inc. dba, The Asian Cultures Museum, was founded as a nonprofit organization in 1974. The Museum represents the vision of one woman-Mrs. Billie Trimble Chandler. Beginning in the late 1950's, Mrs. Chandler lived and taught English in Japan for over seventeen years. During this period, she collected thousands of artifacts and commissioned numerous works of art. Upon her return to Corpus Christi, these objects became the core of the Museum's collections. The collection was later expanded to include items from other Pacific Rim nations and the Indian subcontinent. Reflecting this broader scope, in 1982, the institution became The Museum of Oriental Cultures.
