EHMANN HOME - BCHS Headquarters

The Ehmann Home was built in 1911 by Edwin Ehmann in the Craftsman Bungalow style. The architect was John Morton of Chico. Today it is the only surviving reminder of the once grand Ehmann Olive Company presence in Butte County. The story of the Ehmann home begins with Freda Ehmann and her olives. She is considered the "mother" of the modern olive canning industry. Her olive curing business began with her desperate effort to develop a market for the olives from her 20-acre orchard. Until this time, olives had been grown primarily for oil; olive curing and canning had not been reliably successful. Through experimentation and stringent quality control, she developed a reliable curing system.

Elverhoj Museum of History & Art

Elverhøj Museum of History & Art occupies a historic hand-crafted structure built in a style derived from the large farmhouses of 18th century Denmark. Visitors to Elverhøj (pronounced el-ver-hoy) will see exhibits celebrating the Danish-American pioneer spirit and the colorful heritage of Denmark; learn about Solvang’s unique history through photos, artifacts and video displays; and stroll the attractive and spacious gallery which shows changing exhibitions of regional, national and international art. Estrella Warbird Museum
Paso Robles, California

Adopting a name to memorialize the World War II Estrella Army Air Force Base that is now Paso Robles Municipal Airport, the Museum was chartered as a not-for-profit California corporation in 1995, and 501(c.3) accreditation soon followed to establish us with the US Departments of Navy and Air Force, as well as the state of California, as an organization approved to receive surplus aircraft and other government properties.

Located on the airport proper, the Museum is one of the few "fly-in or drive-in" facilities in the nation, and has over 200 members who rub elbows and enjoy the camaraderie at our monthly dinner meetings. Presently, hours are limited to Friday through Monday, and there is a minimal charge for admission to the Museum or its grounds.
