The Foundation works specifically to increase the awareness of Oakland as an historical attraction of estimable value to the city. As well as our work in the important area of preservation, members enjoy field trips, participating in various on-going projects, gardening, guided tours and helping with the many festive functions that Historic Oakland Foundation sponsors. Historic Macon Foundation enacts the priorities of preservation-minded volunteers in our community. We provide our members with up-to-date, complete and accurate information about economic development, smart growth and historic preservation so that we can work together with our political leaders to revitalize our beautiful city. To accomplish this goal, we regularly call on our members to advocate for the historic places they love (like Atlantic Cotton Mills and the historic Bibb County Courthouse). We provide the tools and advice that makes the most of your interests in these projects. In addition, we work to reviatlize entire working-class neighborhoods: saving the homes, preserving tolerant mixes of income levels and culture, eliminating crime and increasing homeownership.
