Art, Culture, History, Library, Specialized

The Arab American National Museum (AANM) is the first and only museum in the United States devoted to Arab American history and culture. The AANM is located in the heart of metro Detroit's Arab American community. Through its interactive hands-on exhibits, the AANM documents and presents the Arab American story. By bringing the voices and faces of Arab Americans to its audiences, the AANM affirms its commitment to dispel the many misconceptions about Arab Americans and other minorities. The museum brings to light the shared experiences of immigrants and ethnic groups, while paying tribute to the diversity of our nation.

Arenac County is situated along the Saginaw Bay of Lake Huron in the Great Lakes. It is rich in Indian history because of its abundance of hard chert and flint for arrowheads. It is rich in logging history as a part of the logging industry developed around Michigan's white pine and hardwoods as well as being a conduit to the lake for shipping the lumber produced here. The County also was the location of a 19th century summer resort hotel to which customers arrived by ship. Its history was gradually reshaped due to the disastrous wildfires that eventually destroyed the logging business in the area.
