The Atlanta History Museum at the Atlanta History Center is one of the largest history museums in the nation, featuring award-winning signature exhibitions that tell the story of the region's people, from its earliest settlers to the international city of today. The word "Elachee" is from the Cherokee language meaning "new green earth". Elachee is a woodland refuge and museum designed to involve, excite and educate visitors of all ages. Elachee Nature Science Center is located within the 1500 acre Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve. We offer a variety of environmental education programs...school field trips,homeschool programs, scout programs, adult master naturalist program, teacher education, summer day camp, children's birthday parties, public programs including First Saturday Hikes, special Saturday programs, Snake Day, Fall Family Festival, and nature-oriented volunteer opportunities. Additionally we have two exhibit halls, a live animal room with native reptiles and amphibians, and a nature shop.
