Twenty years before the 1849 gold rush to Calif, thousands of gold seekers flocked into the Cherokee Nation in what is now North Georgia, beginning the nation's first major gold rush. Today Dahlonega relates the history of the period with exhibits.

Davenport House Museum

At the Davenport House visitors glimpse into the American past when the nation was new and Isaiah Davenport, a young carpenter from New England, achieved success as a builder in his adopted city. The world of early 19th century Savannah is presented through the outstanding Federal-style home Davenport built for his household. Furnished as it would have been in the 1820s, the museum is an authentic period restoration.

Dunwoody Nature Center

The Dunwoody Nature Center is a nonprofit organization established to develop, improve, and preserve Dunwoody Park as a natural classroom for environmental education. The park is open sun-up to sundown, seven days a week, free of charge.
