Church, Culture

For those of you unfamiliar with the Charles H. Chipman Cultural Center and the Chipman Foundation, we are located in Salisbury, Maryland on the Maryland Eastern Shore. The Chipman Cultural Center is an historic landmark, a former African American church dating to 1837 when five local freedmen purchased property and built a structure for use as a church, school and meeting place. Formerly known as the John Wesley Methodist Episcopal Church, the building is now a cultural center and small museum honoring the history of African Americans of the Eastern Shore regional area. Open in 1994, the Chipman Cultural Center serves its community and its environs.
