The Pate Museum of Transportation, just south of Fort Worth, is a prime example of one Texan’s devotion to all things mobile. A.M. Pate Jr., owner of Fort Worth based Texas Refinery Company, began collecting classic cars in the 1960s and didn’t stop until his death in 1988. He ended up amassing helicopters, a yellow submarine, and a Cadillac with the biggest fins this side of the ocean, among other treasures.

Stockyards Museum
Fort Worth, Texas

History

The Stockyards Museum, located within the Livestock Exchange Building in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, wants to provide visitors with a better understanding of how the Stockyards worked and what it meant to Fort Worth. The area was a community as well as an industry, and it brought together people from many countries. Many historical society members and their families grew up, lived, and worked in this area, which in the early years was part of two cities, separate and distinct from Fort Worth proper: North Fort Worth and later Niles City.

Our latest project, soon to be released, is a video history of the Stockyards, called WALL STREET OF THE WEST.

Log Cabin Village
Fort Worth, Texas

History, Historic House, Specialized

In the 1950s, nineteenth century log structures were quickly vanishing from the North Texas landscape. In order to preserve them and the history of pioneer settlement in North Texas, a group of residents formed the Pioneer Texas Heritage Committee. This committee selected and acquired six log structures of varying architectural styles with the vision of creating a "log cabin village." With the help of Fort Worth's Parks Department, a wooded spot near the Trinity River in Forest Park was selected as the site for this village. However, after all the cabins were moved there, the committee encountered many problems. There was not enough money or support to restore and furnish the structures. Many council members and residents even opposed the project.
