Hawthorne Historical Museum & Cultural Center

The building housing Hawthorne's museum was built in 1907 as a church for one of the town's African-American congretations. Visitors will find relics from the office of an early town doctor, memorabilia from the career of Rep. Sidney Martin and items illustrating the heyday of the turpentine distillery.

Heritage Village, operated by Pinellas County government with assistance from the Pinellas County Historical Society, is a 21-acre living history museum located in the heart of Pinellas County at 11909 125th St. N. in Largo. It is adjacent to the Florida Botanical Gardens. Heritage Village brings to life more than 150 years of rich and colorful local history in a picturesque, cool landscape of palmettos and pine trees. More than 25 buildings and structures are restored, authentic and full of fun. A new EnterAction adventure welcomes families and reveals secrets of the past.

Historic Homestead Town Hall Museum

The Museum is located in the original Town Hall building, built in 1916-1917. We have photographs of historic places and people, the 1924 American LaFrance fire engine that belonged to the City of Homestead, books for sale, a research library, a website, and keyword-searchable copies of many of the early Homestead newspapers, dating from 1912.

The story of the New River is as old as the Everglades. It was home to the Tequesta People from prehistoric time. Later is was a refuge for the Seminole People. Even though it was claimed by Ponce De Leon for his King in 1513, it remained virtually untouched by the modern world until the late 1800s. Fort Lauderdale Historical Society operates 3 museums and a research library on the banks of the New River. Its campus features an open-air museum that demonstrates the best remaining examples of wood and masonry vernacular tropical architecture. Its Main, Pioneer House and Schoolhouse Museums explore the development of South Florida from virgin land to the present.

House of Refuge Museum at Gilbert's Bar

One of ten Houses of Refuge built by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1876, this is the only one that remains. Today it stands as a museum celebrating early peoples, life saving efforts, shipwrecks and military service. Re-creation of rooms depicting life at the House around the turn of the century. Exhibits of Ais Indians, shipwrecks and military servive are also displayed.Tours are available as are self-guided tours through the use of interpretive panels. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Historic Stranahan House Museum

The Stranahan House was built in 1901 by Frank Stranahan, credited as Fort Lauderdale’s founding father, and his wife Ivy Cromartie Stranahan, the area’s first school teacher. It is the oldest surviving structure in Broward County and has served as a trading post, post office, town hall, and home to the Stranahans. The house is a wood-frame vernacular structure with wide porches and a stunning view of the New River. The Stranahan House has stood at the center of Fort Lauderdale’s growth since it was built and has played a significant role in the economic and social life of this community. A guided tour of Fort Lauderdale's Historic Stranahan House Museum is like a journey through time.
