The building housing Hawthorne's museum was built in 1907 as a church for one of the town's African-American congretations. Visitors will find relics from the office of an early town doctor, memorabilia from the career of Rep. Sidney Martin and items illustrating the heyday of the turpentine distillery.
Hawthorne area has a wonderful museum that highlights and vanguards our history, a true reflection of our heritage. It is located at the southern end of SE 221 St (historic Johnson St). We look forward to seeing you there!
