The vision of Frank Gilyard, Sr., a local historian is the impetus behind the Central Pennsylvania African American Museum. For over 30 years, Frank has collected and catalogued the art, documents, court records and books which focuses on local African American history in the Reading and Berks County area. It has long been a dream of Mr. Gilyard to establish an African American Museum in the city of Reading. His collection is a journey through the last 177 years and a critical, but undiscovered chapter in our community's development.

Step up to the wooden porch of Chris Sanderson's country home and tour eight rooms filled with over 200 years of American history. The Sanderson Museum has a rich collection of objects relating to life in Chadds Ford as well as an extensive collection of memorabilia representing the American experience. Visitors to the museum will uncover artifacts from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, both World Wars and learn about the Battle of Brandywine along with other local lore.

Crawford County Historical Society

The Crawford County Historical Society was founded in 1880. Our purpose is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Crawford County. The Society archives contains one of the oldest and most comprehensive repositories for genealogical resources in northwestern Pennsylvania, an extensive library of regional and state histoy and local authors, a large manuscript and photo collection and a massive collection of records of the Erie Railroad. We are located in Meadville, PA, one block east of Diamond Park at 411 Chestnut Street in the Helene Barco-Duratz Cultural Center. We welcome visitors who wish to browse our displays or do research.
