The Houston Municipal Airport Terminal is a beautiful and rare example of classic art deco airport architecture from the golden age of flight. The Terminal served Houston during the years when air travelers dressed in their finest and embarked for exotic destinations aboard roaring propliners like the Douglas DC-3 and the Lockheed Constellation.

The Houston Aeronautical Heritage Society is restoring the long-vacant Houston Municipal Airport Terminal for the City of Houston. As the restoration is completed in phases, the Houston Aeronautical Heritage Society is outfitting and operating the Terminal as the 1940 Air Terminal Museum, an interactive museum showcasing the role and importance of civil aviation since the dawn of manned flight.

The museum was given, with the library, to the people of Tyler County in 1966, by Governor and Mrs. Allan Shivers. The building is a Victorian house containing mementos of the governor's gubernatorial service and private life.

The American Cotton Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of the American cotton industry. Our exhibits explore the social history of cotton production in America through the days of sharecropping to modern production circa 1868 to current. We focus on sharecropping, ginners, and cotton compresses to the end product users- spinners, weavers and industrical workers.

Through the Frances Arnold Ellis Local History Galler, we are preserving thelocal history of Hund Conty inclusive of the local cotton industry. The Historic Ende-Gaillard House (c.1857) is part of our physical plant.

The Bell County Museum is housed in the restored Carnegie Library building, built in 1904-05. It is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum opened to the public in 1991 and is dedicated to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Bell County region, focusing on the first 100 years (1850-1950) of the county.

A blacksmith shop, woodworking shop, pioneer house, wagon house, main museum building and many outdoor exhibits showcase antique farm machinery and implements. Located on the Republic of Texas Plaza, the living-history museum complex consists of two historic houses, the oldest existing one-room schoolhouse in Harris County, a replica barn that can be used for meetings and other activities. Physical office, gift shop and reference library not yet open to the public, will be housed on site in the 1898 house now being restored. All staff/docents are volunteer at this time.

BSNM is open to the public six days of the week (Monday through Saturday), conducting tours for the general public and area schools, in addition to providing education programming for middle to high school students. Although it was built in 1896, the C. S. Roberts House, an Eastlake style mansion, has changed very little over time. The dual gas/electric chandeliers, the seven gas fireplaces and other features such as pocekt doors and speaking tubes have never been modernized.Many items of furniture, such as the tall case clock on the stairs, have stood in the same position for over 100 years. Today, the historic house museum shows visitors the world of a middle class business owner and his family and servants in Texas in the years 1896 to the First World War. Our many special events and publications relate to the preservation and promotion of the understanding of the regions history and architecture.

The Center's research collections date back to the opening of The University of Texas in 1883. As the University's holdings in Texas history grew, scholars urged their consolidation and special housing. In 1945, University regents created the Eugene C. Barker Texas History Center. In 1991, the Barker became a component of the newly created Center for American History (CAH), a special collections library, archive, and museum that supports research, teaching, and other activities related to the history of the U. S. The CAH is comprised of the Research and Collections Division at UT in Austin, the Sam Rayburn Library and Museum in Bonham and the Winedale near Round Top.
