1950s Park Forest House Museum
Park Forest, Illinois

Culture, General, History, Historic House, Historical Society, Library

The 1950s Park Forest House Museum commemorates the pioneers of Park Forest--the residents who moved here during the first five years. Representing an original townhome, one of 3010 built by American Community Builders between October 1947 and October 1949, rooms are furnished as they might have been from 1948-1953. Park Forest was the first fully-planned, post-World War II suburb, called "America's Original GI Town," studied around the world. Now with convenient parking in front of the former school building it is housed in. The collection is now accessible--all on one floor, with a handicap accessible bathroom down the hall.

African-American Cultural & Genealogical Society Of Illinois, Inc.
Decatur, Illinois

Culture, General, History, Historical Society, Library

The A.A.C.G.S provides the Central Illinois community with a solid local research base and networks with other societies' local, state, and national resources. As we have begun our research, already we have located many slave names and owners during the period of 1619 - 1860. African-Americans have helped to build and have remained unacknowledged for far too long. We have the great task of researching and recognizing those African-Americans who helped to make America the great country it is.

Bloomingdale Historical Society
Bloomingdale, Illinois

Culture, History, Historical Society

Bloomingdale is one of the earliest villages settled in what is now DuPage County. The Meacham family settled here in 1833, and by the end of the following year, 12-15 families had settled in the locality. The community was served by the Chicago-Galena Highway, modern day Lake Street. It became an important stop for stage coaches and westward travelers. Originally a Cook County settlement, it was annexed by DuPage in 1839, and incorporated as a village later that year. The northern part of the village wanted to develop commercially while the southern part wished to remain a farming community. In 1922, the village split to accommodate this—the northern portion of the town was incorporated as Roselle. Source: Wikipedia

Chicago Baseball Museum
Chicago, Illinois

Culture, History, Specialized

The Chicago Baseball Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that will collect, preserve, document, research, and interpret artifacts and events that are associated with the legacy, evolution and contemporary life of Chicago baseball.

Our goal is to compliment the various baseball museums and institutions around the country, including Cooperstown, the Negro League Baseball Museum, and the virtual All-American Girls Professional Baseball League museum. We feel our unique Chicago perspective will only serve to compliment the landscape of baseball in America.

Our dream for the Chicago Baseball Museum is to emulate the scope and integrity of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library in Springfield, IL.
