Deering Estate at Cutler

The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami-Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue in Miami. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation. Historic house tours are offered daily at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. Natural areas tours are offered daily at 12:30 pm (October – May). Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park showcases some of Florida's loveliest landscape surrounding the headwaters of the Homosassa River. The 210-acre park is home to native Florida wildlife including the endangered West Indian Manatees, Red Wolves, Florida Panther, Key deer, Whooping Cranes and much more. The park is one of only a few places where you can see a West Indian manatee up close 365 daysa year. The Fish Bowl underwater observatory allows visitors to see manatees and thousands of fish in the crystal-clear freshwater spring. Three educational programs on the manatees,two Wildlife encounters and one alligator and hippopotamus program are offered daily. The Children's education center offers a variety of hands-on activities for young people.

The Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center is located on Hutchinson Island. Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon, the 57 acre parcel houses the Society's headquarters, nature trails, 750,000-gallon Game Fish Lagoon, Children's Activity Pavilion, Sea Star Touch-Tank Pavilion, Rays on the Reef Ray Pavilion and the Frances Langford Visitor's Center. With its coastal hardwood hammocks and mangrove swamp communities, the site provides excellent opportunities for education and research aimed at increasing the general knowledge of these unique environments.

Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden

The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is the only "frost-free" botanical garden in the continental United States and a conservation zone for many endangered and threatened flora and fauna native to the Keys, Cuba and western Caribbean. Its historic roots were set in 1936 as part of a WPA project to vitalize the island as a tourist destination. Today, it continues to be a refreshing, natural oasis for the visiting public. The Forest offers an unusual opportunity to experience native Keys’ biodiversity and learn more about its importance. For instance, the Forest has fresh water ponds, a rare asset that makes it a major migratory stopping point for neo-tropical birds from places as far as South America, as well as being home to many rare Florida Keys species.
