True Colorado experiences come alive at the History Colorado Center! The landscape of Colorado was shaped over millions of years. Its natural beauty is diverse and unmatched.
Its people? They're just as distinctive. Visitors of all ages will experience Colorado's rich history from a whole new perspective in exhibitions that blend technology, artifacts and environments to shape compelling stories. Prepare to traverse an 40x60-foot map of the state with a storytelling “time machine;” travel the plains virtually in a Model T; don a headlamp and descend into a hard-rock mine; and soar off the world’s first ski jump. Do all of these activities and more among Colorado’s most historic treasures. Plenty of fun, family-friendly activities, public programs, fascinating lectures and other events keep the History Colorado Center constantly buzzing with activity. Located in the heart of Denver's vibrant Golden Triangle Museum District, the History Colorado Center has a museum store and a restaurant that serves local and organic fare. The History Colorado Center is available to rent for weddings, meetings and parties.
Contact us beginning January 11, 2012 to set an appointment.
Construction work will continue in the building during this time, but we hope to accommodate researchers who have missed access to our collection.
History Colorado (formerly the Colorado Historical Society) connects people to the stories of Colorado’s past to provide perspectives, inspire interest, develop respect and create value in the future of Colorado. Established in 1879, History Colorado offers access to Colorado’s cultural and heritage resources, including statewide museums and special programs for individuals and families, collection stewardship of Colorado’s historic treasures, educational resources for schools, students and teachers, services related to preservation, archaeology and history, and a research library. The History Colorado Center, History Colorado’s new headquarters, is a true hub for Colorado history. It currently houses the offices for the State Archaeologist, the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, the State Historical Fund, the State Historic Preservation Office, the Stephen H. Hart research library, and other History Colorado functions, and will be the home of a highly interactive 21st century state history museum, educational programs, restaurant and museum store, opening in Spring 2012.
