Description

As a noncollecting institution, the Aspen Art Museum presents contemporary art exhibitions that include drawings, paintings, sculptures, multimedia installations, and electronic media.

Mission

The Aspen Art Museum is a noncollecting institution presenting the newest, most important evolutions in international contemporary art. Our innovative and timely exhibitions, education and public programs, immersive activities, and community happenings actively engage audiences in thought-provoking experiences of art, culture, and society.

History

The Aspen Art Museum was founded in 1979, and is currently located in a converted 9,000 square foot former hydroelectric plant.

Programs

The Aspen Art Museum offers guided tours, teacher workshops, workshops for children and teenagers during the summer and winter, family workshops, the Exhibition in a Box program, the Young Curators program, lectures through the Questrom Lecture Series and the Architecture Lecture Series, and gallery walkthroughs with artists and curators.

LECTURES AND CONVERSATIONS: Questrom lectures and conversations explore a broad range of themes relating to current exhibitions and allow the public an opportunity to engage with visiting artists, scholars, curators and critics from around the world.
I DON'T GET IT: Do you ever have difficulty understanding how to look at contemporary art, or do you get stuck worrying about why you do not get it? I Don/'t Get It looks at contemporary art in a fun, informal and often humorous way and encourages, no-questions-barred conversations about current exhibitions with other community members and Aspen Art Museum curators. This is your chance to ask anything and everything and to enjoy contemporary art with good friends and honest discussion.
MEMBERS' GALLERY TALKS: Aspen Art Museum members are invited to attend exclusive gallery walkthroughs with exhibiting artists and AAM curators. These informal conversations offer members the opportunity to engage and connect with artists in an intimate setting.
