Lawrence County Museum of History
Bedford, Indiana
Description

The Lawrence County Museum is housed in the 100-year-old Hamer-Smith building at 929 15th Street in Bedford, Indiana. The museum is home to many interesting artifacts that showcase the history and heritage of Lawrence County. Most of these are housed in the 2400 square foot gallery. There is an extensive collection of research materials in the Edward L. Hutton Genealogical Research Library on the second floor.

Gift Shop

The gift shop carries a variety of items such as books by local authors, books about Indiana and Lawrence County, limestone sculptures, and handcrafted items. The gift shop also stocks a large collection of research materials including cemetary listings, marriage records, and other documents.

Tours

you would like to schedule a tour of the gallery and/or genealogy library for your group, please contact the museum. Tours are led by qualified volunteers, board members, or our staff, depending on your scheduling needs. Tours can be arranged for any age group and nearly any group size (larger groups may need to be divided into smaller groups.) School-aged groups can also opt to participate in a scavenger hunt through the items in the gallery or library, which helps students become familiar and comfortable with the collections.

Mission

The mission of the Lawrence County Historical and Genealogical Society is to preserve and protect local history for future generations.
