This Is The Place Heritage Park is home to Old Deseret Village, a living history museum where you can discover what life was like in mid-1800s Utah. It's a living community that has been painstakingly recreated to represent Utah's past. All of its historic buildings are carefully restored or recreated homes, stores, churches and other structures essential to a bustling pioneer community.
Experience history. During your visit you will meet the strong, independent people who built Utah and experience the sights and sounds of their times. You will learn how they lived, worked and played. Whether you watch a blacksmith at work, visit a 19th century barbershop, take a carriage ride, or enjoy a treat at the Huntsman Hotel, an afternoon at Old Deseret Village can be magical. With more than forty historic buildings and exciting daily activities, the park offers a delightful mix of education and entertainment.
This Is The Place Heritage Park is located at the mouth of Emigration Canyon, across the street from Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City. The Park is accessible from I-15 via the 600 South exit, continuing east on 800 South to the Park; and from I-80 via the Foothill Boulevard exit, continuing north to Sunnyside Avenue, then turning east.
Explore the Park all year long during one of our four Seasons. With dozens of Special Event Days, you'll want to return to the Park again and again. Venture into another time and place! This Is The Place for Everyone!
Educating Utah's students about the history and heritage of the state is an integral part of the mission of the Park. Each year thousands of elementary school students experience pioneer life during field trips to the Park. The activities complement the state curriculum for Utah History at the primary school level. Students take part in an ‘hands-on learning’ experience they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.
Not only do students visit the Park to engage in learning, we also take the Park to them! Our educational outreach program reaches thousands of additional students each year when we visit their school campus. A fun filled, educational experience through original song, dance and poetry makes this outreach assembly program unique to Utah schools. We collaborate with other heritage groups, bringing pioneer life to the classroom. Students also have the opportunity to develop their work and share it with the rest of the student body.
