Description

The Locks & Ship Canal were built over 100 years ago as a Commercial Navigation Route to Develop the City of Seattle. The Locks still contribute over $1.2 Billion/yr. to the Seattle economy and are the Nation's busiest. However, no fees are charged and funding comes from the Federal Government (not Seattle).

History

Founded on July 4, 1917.

Programs

A National Historic Site, busiest locks in the Nation and major tourist attraction...open daily 24/7 for vessels, 7:00 am to 9:00 pm for visitors.

- View migrating salmon from June through September
- Stroll the world class botanical garden
- Tour the visitor center/museum and historic admin building
- Summer activities include summer concerts, picnics and weddings.
