If you are looking for historical information on the city of McCleary or nearby communities, the McCleary Museum is the place to start your search.
McCleary, located at the very eastern edge of Grays Harbor County, Washington, is the gateway to the ocean beaches. A quaint, friendly little town, McCleary offers all kinds of goods and services for people who live in the area or people who are passing through to the beach, the Olympic Rainforest, or to the larger cities of Olympia, Tacoma and Seattle.
In 2019 we closed the museum at the Carnell House. In May 2021 we opened again in the UMC Church building that was built in 1926.In our new location we also have visitor information and an event center. We are now located at 426 S 3rd Street McCleary.
The mission of the McCleary Historical Society is to serve as the collective historical memory of the City of McCleary and to serve the community as a cultural center.
In September 2019 the McCleary Historical Society was asked to leave its home of 35 years. Call it fate, if you will, the United Methodist Church building became available to the Society. A year later we were doing a final fundraising push to raise funds and were able to finish paying for the building. The community has proven to us that they want us to succeed. We know we have their support and appreciate it very much. We not only were able to pay off the building, but have made many of the needed improvements. The new facility is known as the McCleary Museum and Heritage Center. We opened the new facility on Mothers day weekend 2021.
