The Pine County History Museum commemorates the pioneers of Pine County; honoring the diverse cultures that settled here and created villages and thriving communities from nothing but the abundant natural resources, their ingenuity, and the sweat of their brows.

The Pine County History Museum also reflects the multi-cultured heritage including Ojibwe and other Natives & European Settlers.

The museum is set up in themed sections and represent the diverse industries such as: Logging, Milling, Railways, Sandstone Quarries, Farming,and Rutabaga Production.

History

Re-established in 2012 in the former H.C. Andersen school in Askov, MN. The museum has 50,000 square feet and has transformed the former school building with 100% volunteer power!

Research Collections

Pine County History Museum has extensive collections for research and is currently organizing the library with maps, books, ephemera, microfiche, films, photos, and other materials for research. The planned opening of library to the public is spring of 2013.

Programs
Railroad Club

The goal of the club is to build a model of Pine County's rail system that was present during the logging and quarrying industry days. Meetings are held 10:00 am the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at the Pine County History Museum, all are welcome to attend and participate! See website for updates and more information!

Room is available and plans are underway to offer workshops, community education classes and other educational programs. See website class schedule and calendar.

Facilities

Re-established in the former Hans Christensen Andersen school in Askov Mn,PCHM is blessed with vast sqaure footage,including 2 gymnasiums for public events, large public restrooms, ample room for a library and exhibits, a banquet room for banquet rental, and its very own retail antique/handmade gifts and candy shops. The museum utilized the school cafeteria by revamping it into a cafe dubbed "The Little Mermaid Cafe" after HC Andersens book of that title. The cafe offers a full menu of home cooking and free wi-fi to the public.

The Little Mermaid Cafe

he Pine County History Museum at the HC Andersen building (former School) in Askov, MN has opened its cafe to the public. The cafe was dubbed "The Little Mermaid" in honor of the Author Hans Christensen Anderson whom the school was originally named after.

We welcome you to come and relax in the cafe with your friends and family and browse in the museums newest shops. The cafe features free wi-fi for the public. The cafe offers space to accommodate your parties and a banquet hall to rent for your family/class reunions, or other events.

The Creative Co-op

The Creative Co-op is located in the Pine County History Museum, 6333 HC Andersen Alle, Askov, MN. Founded in 2012, we are a volunteer operated co-operative showcasing the collections from vendors across Pine County MN. Come and enjoy exploring our shop for a unique selection of antiques and collectibles suitable for personal gifts, wedding gifts, holiday gifts — or a gift to yourself. We invite you to browse the shops (no entry fee required to visit Museum Marketplace). We specialize in MADE in the USA items!
