Description
Gammelgarden Museum: Established in 1972 to Preserve, Present and Promote Swedish Immigrant Heritage

GammelKyrkan - oldest Lutheran church in Minnesota

Gammelgarden (old, small farm) Museum is located in Scandia, Minnesota - the first Swedish settlement in Minnesota near the St Croix River and 30 minutes north of St Paul. Our 5 historic buildings, fully furnished with period artifacts, tell the story of the wave of Swedish immigration beginning in the 1850's. Our GammelKyrkan (old church) is the oldest Lutheran church still surviving in Minnesota and dates to 1856. Worship services are each Sunday from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on Lucia Dagen in December. The visitor center or Valkhommen Hus is built in the Swedish style and houses more exhibits, a meeting space and large gift shop featuring the best of Sweden.
