The Society is located twelve miles south of Pittsburgh. The Society's history center is located in the old Pittsburgh Coal's freight station at 6425 Pleasant Street in South Park Township, where there are displays of agricultural and mining artifacts, and a research center that contains thousands of photos of families and industry of earlier times. We are constantly growing and expanding our history to provide historical information to students, organizations and the general public.
Founded in 1995,the Society has amassed a huge collection of early mining, farming and business artifacts and information. The Society's research center has a large collection of photos and genealogical information pertaining to the families that settled our area. The Society was also successful with saving the Glenn house and the Pittsburgh Coal's Montour freight station from demolition. Another accomplishment was keeping the South Park buffalo herd and game preserve from being relocated to another park.
