The "Mainline in Miniature" HO train model with details of the Portage Pennsylvania Train Depot and mainline railway is under construction. Train buffs applaud this historic undertaking.
The Portage Area Historical Society formed in 1992 and is located in the historical original Portage Train Depot in Portage, PA. Dedicated volunteers staff, operate, and manage the museum and its activities. In the forefront of education in the rich history of the Portage PA and surrounding area, the Historical Society is frequently called upon by educational institutions such as Penn State, to participate in historical educational undertakings.
Coal Mining, Railroad and Train Memorabilia, Period Clothing and Tools, are included in the unique collections of the Museum.
Newspaper and magazine articles, pamphlets, flyers, bulletins, extensive photos, from the early 1800s are included in the research materials.
Teacher workshops, senior and classroom tours, visiting guests and speakers. All programs and services are free.
