The Mifflinburg Buggy Museum preserves the only intact 19th century carriage factory open to the public in the United States. Its complex includes a modern Visitor Center, the buggy maker's family home, a carriage house, a showroom and the original factory. The Museum offers guided tours of the historic buildings, while the Visitor Center is self-guided. The Museum also offers themed programs every year and special events such as Buggy Days, Battle of Chamber's Ridge and an annual Garden Tour.
The Museum was founded by a group of people who wanted to celebrate the history of Buggy Town and the descendents of the Heiss family which out of 103 buggy factories in the town was the only one left intact.
The Museum's artifacts are tools and supplies in the buggy manufacturing industry; as well as household items, and finished carriages.
The Museum's colection includes day books and journals from various businesses and townspeople and magazines from the various businesses that the buggy maker, William Heiss engaged.
The Museum offers educational programs for school children both in school and on site. Union County schools are not charged.
