Description

Located in the heart of historic Philadelphia, the National Liberty Museum is dedicated to defusing violence and bigotry by celebrating America’s heritage of freedom and the wonderfully diverse society it has produced. The Museum includes 76 exhibits, 179 works of contemporary art, and stories of 1,993 heroes within eight expansive galleries and adjacent spaces.

Glass art is a key component of the Museum because it represents both the beauty and fragility of freedom. The Museum houses one of the largest and most important collections of contemporary glass sculptures in the world. The centerpiece of the Museum is a 21-foot "Flame of Liberty" by the world's most renowned glass artist, Dale Chihuly.

Another important theme of the Museum is the universality of heroism — the idea that anyone can be a hero. The Museum honors 2,000 people of all backgrounds and walks of life to promote pride in oneself and respect for others. We also teach ways to resolve conflicts peacefully and stress the necessity of civic involvement as a means of preserving America's heritage of freedom.

The Museum offers a wide range of special programs reflecting our mission of preserving freedom and fostering good character. Use the tool bar on the left to find our special offerings for teachers and scouts. You’ll also learn about our award programs which recognize outstanding police officers, firefighters, teachers, young people and others who work to defuse violence and promote peace.

Many schools have a limited budget or mandate from their district which prevents them from making field trips to the Museum. The National Liberty Museum's outreach effort makes it possible for all schools, teachers, students, parents, and caregivers to experience the extraordinary character education, violence prevention, and diversity appreciation programs of the National Liberty Museum. To learn more about the National Liberty Museum's Outreach Programs, please call Kevin Orangers, Vice President of Programs, at 215-925-2800, ext. 133 or email outreach@libertymuseum.org.

The National Liberty Museum offers a distinctive alternative for entertaining clients, associates, family and friends. Featuring eight beautiful galleries on four expansive floors, our facility includes a world-class glass art collection, inspiring exhibits and stunning historic architecture. Choose as many galleries as your event requires; using the entire building provides 30,000 square-feet of amazing space!
