The Friends of the East Broad Top Museum presents the history of the East Broad Top Railroad & Coal Company, the industries it served in the surrounding area and the culture of the railroad, its employees and customers. The museum’s current exhibits are located in the historic Rockhill Iron and Coal Company Post Office and also includes the East Broad Top Railroad Station. Three original East Broad Top hoppers are now on display adjacent to the station on a section of restored track.
Friends of the East Broad Top is dedicated to the preservation and, restoration and interpretation of the East Broad Top Railroad, a registered US National Historic Landmark located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
FEBT was organized in 1983 by persons interested in the history, preservation, and restoration of the East Broad Top Railroad. Since 1986 FEBT has worked to provide a museum and visitor experience in Robertsdale, PA, the heart of the coal fields the East Broad Top Railroad served.
FEBT accepts the donation of historic artifacts relating to the East Broad Top Railroad, the Broad Top coal mining industry and the communities served by the East Broad Top Railroad.
FEBT shared an ongoing joint archives project with the EBT Foundation, which is available online - https://ebtfoundation.org/archives/
Tours of the historic Robertsdale rail yard and coal mining area are provided three times a day when the museum is open. Rides on an original EBT handcar are offered on over a mile of restored mainline track. FEBT volunteers provide informational and historical booths at community events, East Broad Top Railroad events, and regional train shows.
FEBT is governed by a nine-member board of directors. Directors are elected by FEBT members for two-year terms, with each half staggered by one year from the other. An executive committee, consisting of the president, vice president and secretary, provides policy guidance to officers and staff and management oversight for all FEBT operations. Officers, including the president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, are selected annually by the board. Staff positions are appointed by the president in consultation with the board. All directors, officers, and staff persons serve as unpaid volunteers.
