East Berlin Historical Preservation Society was organized in 1975 in an effort to preserve the unique heritage of the town and is responsible for the following historic buildings:

Red Men's Hall (Location 1)
Church / School House (Location 2)
Log House (Location 3)
Swigart's Mill (Location 4)
Liberty #1 Engine House (Location 5)

Mission

EBHPS a nonprofit organization whose Board of Directors and Officers are all volunteers. Membership is open to anyone who shares the Society's commitment to East Berlin. The active, dedicated people who make our group so strong have a common willingness to volunteer throughout the year, doing the work that is the heart of our organization.

Membership meeting are held bi-monthly, beginning in January. The Society newsletter,, The Berlin Informer, keeps members across the country up-to-date on current projects.

Today our Society maintains five historic buildings including Swigart's Mill (1794), an 1832 log house, the Liberty #1 Engine House (1892), the Church Schoolhouse and Red Men's Hall. We take responsibility for these structures, knowing that they are an important part of what helps to make East Berlin unique.

Raising funds to support this work requires sponsoring several large events during the year, including Colonial Day, the Historic East Berlin Antique Show and the Town and Country Christmas House Tour.

A new education program shares the history and character of our town with children from neighboring school districts and other interested groups

Social events include a Strawberry Festival and a candlelit Christmas dinner in our 18th century mill. Planning for each even begins many months in advance and requires the ideas and time of many people. Volunteerism is an important aspect or our Society.
