The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is home to more than 900 animals of all shapes and sizes. From the smallest animal (milkweed bug) to the largest (Asian elephant), the Zoo offers unique viewing opportunities for its guests.
The Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, a distinction earned by fewer than 220 institutions. AZA accreditation is your guarantee that the Rosamond Gifford Zoo meets the highest standards of animal care and guest experience. Take your time, look at the animals, look at the plants, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and help us make the world a better place for animals and people. Thank you for your support!
While you're out wandering the Wildlife Trail, don't forget to stop by our conveniently located concession stands. If your plans for the day include a picnic, it will be hard to resist the smell of our grilled hotdogs and sausages, located near the birds in the picnic area. Should the heat get you down, cool off with gourmet ice cream or slushies at our stand by the primate building or Dippin' Dots, available at the bottom of the hill before the bear exhibit. Most of our concession stands offer ice cream and popsicles, so be sure an enjoy a tasty treat!
The gift shop at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo offers a wide variety of items for your personal shopping and gift needs. If you are purchasing a gift for someone with you -- perhaps your own little cub or two -- our staff is great at keeping secrets. Just give us the sign and we'll sneak your surprises in a bag to have them rung up and waiting before you can say, "Let's go see the tigers." We have even made "special deliveries" to vehicles in the parking lot to help you keep your surprise a secret. Let us know how we can help! Located at the main entrance to the Zoo, the gift shop is open 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shop is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
The mission of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is to conserve, exhibit and interpret a living animal collection in order to promote public recreation, understanding of the relationship between animals and people, and action to sustain the environment we share.
The Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park has had its own wild adventure of growth and improvements over the last century. Once just a small 4-acre facility, the Zoo is now home to approximately 700 animals on 43 acres. Continuous improvements to the zoo's infrastructure and animal exhibits ensure that the Rosamond Gifford Zoo will remain a treasured attraction in Central New York.
Burnet Park Zoo receives $2 million endowment from the Rosamond Gifford Charitable Corporation and becomes the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park.
Zoo to You is a traveling, inquiry-based educational program that visits schools, libraries, community centers, senior centers/facilities, day care centers, scout groups, etc. Zoo to You's goal is to increase awareness of the animal kingdom and encourage the participants to be environmentally conscious. Each program includes live animals such as birds, reptiles, and invertebrates, among others, and some of the animals may be touchable. We also use biofacts (animal-related artifacts) to create a hands-on experience for the participants. All Zoo to You programs are presented by professional zoo educators.
