The museum collection is housed in a 100-year old brick building which formerly served as an elementary school. Our extensive assortment of approximately 25,000 artifacts fall into four categories: multicultural, Victorian, natural history, and items that relate to Mohawk Valley's colorful industrial past (documentary, photographic and tangible).
The Museum's collections are eclectic and diverse. In addition to "DISCOVERY!" other permanent exhibits include "A Complicated Weave: the influence of factories on the community", a Victorian Exhibit, and a Natural History exhibit. We are always developing new offerings as well as temporary exhibits by local artists.
The Walter Elwood Museum is a gateway to learning using the past to illuminate the present. Utilizing local experience, stories and artifacts, we examine history and culture in all its dimensions. We offer educational programs, unique collections and creative activities to enrich understanding of ourselves and each other.
