Description

The LH Horton Jr Gallery is a fine arts exhibition program within the Visual Arts Department of San Joaquin Delta College, and a venue of Delta Center for the Arts. Six exhibitions are presented annually, including a series of three juried exhibitions (ceramics, painting & sculpture, and photography); biennial faculty and alumni shows, a thematic small group show, and an annual student art show.

The Gallery offers excellent exhibition opportunities to local, regional, and national artists, lenders and guest curators. Gallery admission is free and open to the public.

The LH Horton Jr Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Shima Center at the northern end of San Joaquin Delta College campus (see directions below). Recommended parking is available in the Shima lot for a nominal fee of $2. The Gallery is handicapped accessible and tours are welcome. Please call ahead to arrange Gallery Talks and address special needs. Gallery exhibitions and opening receptions are free and open to the public.

History

The Gallery's roots can be traced back to 1969. In 1975 the Gallery was officially established in Shima Center on the main Delta College campus.It was closed in 1997 and remodeled in 2000 and reopened permanently. The Gallery supports the arts advocacy efforts of the Stockton Arts Commission, the California Arts Council, and the Stockton Unified School Dist. Arts in Education Program.
