Dedicated to providing a place for children and their families to explore and discover together the wonders of the world around us, Gull Wings features over 15 hands-on exhibits or, we like to say, imagination stations. Gull Wings is the only children's museum in Ventura County.
In 2012, we will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of our founding! To help us celebrate, we are collecting stories and testimonials from the many children, parents, grandparents, teachers, and others who have visited us over the past quarter-century. Please take a few minutes of your time to submit your very own story using the contact form below, and you may find yourself featured in some of the materials we’re developing for our 25th anniversary! If you have photos you would like to share, you can either email copies to info@gullwings.org or mail copies to our director, Melissa Baffa, at 418 W. 4th Street, Oxnard, CA 93030. Hard copies of photos will not be returned, so please submit copies only. Thanks!
Gull Wings Children’s Museum offers many volunteer opportunities for teens, adults and groups. As a part of our Crew, you will interact with visitors, assist staff with our hands-on exhibits or help our hard-working administrative staff. Volunteers make the museum come alive to our visitors!
With the belief that children are tactile and learn by doing, Gull Wings was born in 1988 through the energy and dedication of local educators who desired to provide a place of participatory learning for the community. In May of 1989, Gull Wings opened to the public at the present site generously provided by the City of Oxnard for a mere $1 per year.
The Museum serves 30,000 visitors per year in the approximately 6,000 square foot facility in Downtown Oxnard, and reaches out to an additional 200,000 per year through our “Museum On The Go” program in local schools, festivals, and community events, targeting those who could not otherwise visit the museum in person.
Our growing educational programs include regular story times to promote literacy; arts and crafts to instill a sense of creativity and imaginative thinking; music to encourage natural expression and movement; natural resource exploration; and directed education programs in space exploration, science, and coastal conservation.
Poised to celebrate its 25th Anniversary in 2012, Gull Wings looks to a bright future as we continue to serve the families of Ventura County and beyond.
