Pappy Boyington Field Museum Inc and Themuseums.us is dedicated to preserving local aviation history and the efforts of veterans and aviators who have sacrificed and contributed to preserving the integrity and peace to which the United States has been graced.
The non-profit Pappy Boyington Field Museum, Inc was started to preserve the artifacts and stories of veterans that live in our region to teach future generations about the the sacrifices made for our freedoms and, in addition, to honor locally born and raised WW2 Marine fighter pilot Greg "Pappy" Boyington. "Pappy" is America's all-time leading Marine ace with 28 victories, the only fighter pilot to have a television series created around his exploits and was awarded the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross for his courageous efforts.
Pappy Boyington Memorial Fund was created to honor and preserve the legacy of Colonel Gregory Pappy Boyington, who was born in Coeur d Alene, Idaho in 1912. Pappy was the Commanding Officer of the VMF-214 Black Sheep Squadron during WWII, and he was awarded the Medal of Honor. To honor Pappy and all Americans who have protected our freedoms, The Boyington Memorial Fund was established as a non-profit 501(c)3. The initial goal is to raise funds for completion of an 8-foot bronze statue of Pappy, which will serve to create awareness for additional fund-raising goals to assist Veterans in need.
We need volunteers to make this museum first-rate. We have artifacts and stories coming in at an increasing rate. Do you have time, talent or treasure to contribute?
