Located in A.G. Bimson’s historic blacksmith shop and Elmer Carlson’s garage building, the Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum brings Berthoud’s heritage to life. An array of exhibits reveals the town and surrounding rural districts as a bustling agricultural center of Colorado since the 1880s.
Originally built in 1893 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Bimson’s Stone Shop also serves as the gateway to museum grounds that feature unique exhibits and comfortable gathering places where the Berthoud Historical Society hosts educational event and entertaining programs for all ages.
Our other buildings include the Carlson Building which is host to our temporary exhibits. The backyard is filled with other historical structures, a barn, a windmill, an 1874 cabin, an observatory complete with telescope, and a one room school house.
Items regarding farming in the area.
Summer camps, kid activities through the year.
We offer school tours for all ages. Our summer camps are very popular and fill up fast! Check our events page as we often have family related events that are great for parents and kids!
Visitors to the gift shop at the Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum will discover a selection of regional history books as well as unique Berthoud items that range from calendars and Christmas cards to coffee mugs and catalogs from the Berthoud Farm Project photo exhibit.
Berthoud’s own Katie Essig won the highly-coveted Girl Scout “Gold Award” for constructing a kid’s scavenger hunt for the Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum.
