General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute & Museum
Hobart, Oklahoma
Description

Located in the southwest Oklahoma town of Hobart, the current museum is housed in recently-renovated historic downtown buildings. The 9,500 square foot facility includes a gift shop, a show room and display gallery that showcases items from General Frank's personal collection. The museum's theme of Leadership, Patriotism and Service is shared through many unique items, one-of-a-kind pieces, top secret videos and by the life lessons learned by General Tommy Franks.

Future plans for the learning institute and museum include construction of a 45,000 square foot state of the art facility that will contain an auditorium, exhibit gallery, teleconference studio, library and archive. Donations are currently being sought to help in the development of this facility. Visit our website or contact the institute for more information.

Mission

The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum will utilize its collection, facilities, and resources to advance the understanding of historical events, encourage leadership development and inspire enlightened decision making by providing a forum of critical thinking through scholarly research, exhibitions, and public programs.

Programs

Museum Road Show: The traveling Road Show and Classroom started as one of two major Phase II projects of the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute (the other being Four Star Debate). The Road Show is a traveling exhibit that enhances the educational opportunities for school students by 'taking the show to the kids.' Two educators/ tour guides give instructional tours to middle school students, bringing the exhibit to life. Educational discussions are based on a curriculum packet that meet Oklahoma PASS skill requirements. Since the beginning in September of 2008 the Road Show has traveled over 40,000 miles taking the show to over 215 schools and has guided more than 38,000 students through the exhibit. These schools have been across Oklahoma and last year extended into Texas.

The mobile classroom travels directly to schools, free of charge through donations of key sponsors. Partners that have made this project possible include Choice Hotels, Oklahoma Christian University, Design Werks, National Center for Policy Analysis, Musco Lighting, City of Hobart, DeBartolo and Family, Planters Co-op, Hobart and Lone Wolf, Washington Speakers Bureau, Stockman’s Bank, John Wiseman and contributions from individuals like you.
