A museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of transportation and early aviation through the 1930s. We are located at the Poplar Grove Airport and have an extensive campus, including three restored airplane hangars, a 1930s-era garage, and a Sonoco gas station with authentic gas pumps! Throughout the summer, we have exciting and popular events, such as a Wine Tasting, Swing Dance, Vintage Wheels Show, and an Agriculture event. Our museum also holds monthly Dogs N Brats Days and hosts various car and airplane groups.
Our main museum building is a spacious airplane hangar built in 1937. There is ample room, both inside and out on our sprawling lawns, for parties, weddings, meetings, and more.
We have an extensive collection, including everything from WWI aviation medals to restored airplanes and cars. Come by to see our 1928 AW Cessna or our 1916 Mobilette Cycle Car. Tractors, bicycles, two Model A's, a letter signed by Charles Lindbergh, and more completes the collection!
We offer a library facility with a wide range of materials, such as books, magazines, videos, and DVDs. All areas of transportation subjects are covered, including airplanes, cars, and space travel. Any visitor is welcome to peruse the library and stay to read or conduct research. Museum members are free to check materials out.
We are dedicated to sharing our passion and knowledge of aviation and transportation history with students and adults alike in Boone County, Winnebago County, and the surrounding area. We offer a variety of programs both inside and outside the classroom, specifically targeted for schools, homeschool groups, Scout troops, and adult learning programs. We are also willing to develop programs, museum visits, and lectures for your next meeting or social event. A variety of outreach programs and field trips are available for local schools and groups. Summer camps for the month of July are also scheduled. Costs for any program can be found on the website.
