Take a moment to acknowledge those whose steps were first to imprint Calaveras soil. We live in an area full of a rich and robust heritage represented in our County Museum. Many decendants of the early residents of Calaveras County are still living, and it is possible to collect from them a vast fund of early history in the county.
The Calaveras County Historical Society has a wealth of information about our history. Our materials and resource library are especially helpful concerning local pioneer families and gold mining. The Society also has one of the most extensive photo collections in the Mother Lode. We can have prints made for a fee, or you can bring in a camera and take your own.
The downtown museum complex, which houses many of the exhibits and collections, is locted in the old government center with the Courthouse, Jail Yard, and Hall of Records.
